Wasses

What is wasses?

Wasses is a famous hot dog place in and around Maine. We aquired this domain from an adult entertainment company using it as a typo of the word asses.

We are devolping the domain into a blog, if we don't sell the domain name first. For now we are going to share some reviews we have found online for Wasses Hot Dogs, in case you came here looking for them, and not an adult entertainment site!

In honor of National French Fry Day, Joe and I stopped by a Maine institution, Wasses Hot Dogs, for some fries and a few dogs. I never had chili cheese fries before, so I ordered some up. Larry the Lobster, my car mascot decided he wanted some as well. Joe was leery about the fries at first, but I dug right in, so he did too. The combination of commercial cheese sauce and mild, almost flavorless chili paste glopped onto the fries actually tasted pretty good. Of course this was right after we had done a tour and tastings at some of the local wineries, but still, the buzz from the wine wasn't that strong.

Heading south on Route 1, from an overpass and through the rain, I spotted a little white hut and the words "Hot Dogs."  Hung a U, and headed back to one of the Wasses Hot Dog stands that seem to cover central coastal Maine.  Wasses grills their dogs and finishes them off with fried onions and a bunch of other toppings.  The bun is the standard Maine hot dog bun, slightly warmed.  The grilled dogs and the grilled onions work great together.

Wasses Hot Dogs has served over 2 million hot dogs to the Mid-Coast customers in over 31 years of business. What started as a one person business has expanded to 4 locations in 3 communities. The hot dogs and onions are cooked on a grill in peanut oil. This method creates a very unique taste. Our logo states that we have "ABSOLUTELY THE BEST TASTING HOT DOGS ANYWHERE". Please stop by one of our locations and sample a true Mid-Coast Maine tradition.
